Wet and Windy in Woolacombe

9 things to do on a wet and windy day

When the sun is shining and the skies are blue, we have big smiles on our faces and Woolacombe Beach lovingly calls us to descend upon its golden sands. We are in Devon though and we don’t always get what we wish for, sometimes it’s wet and windy and we must change our plans.

We have so many all-weather things to do for you and your family. We’re a top destination come rain or shine, of course, so your holiday will never be ruined if the heavens do open!

The Red Barn

Our legendary surfer bar-grill, sitting in the heart of our seaside village. Dog friendly, family friendly, biker friendly, granny friendly. An amazing pub for lunch with the whole gang. Great for couples, as well as lads’ or girls’ nights out, and the odd stag & hen too!

Body Board

If it’s already wet, you may as well pop on a wetsuit! Our amazing surfing simulator is waiting for you at Golden Coast. The Wavesurfer creates an artificial wave that anyone can board on, whether you’re a beginner or experienced surfer. Check out the Woolacombe Wave page for more information, you’ll see why we love this part of the world so much.

From our famous cream teas (cream on first!) to our local ice creams (you must try a Hockings), we have a wide range of pubs, bars, grills and other eateries in North Devon. If there’s something we do very well, then it’s good quality food – fish & chips in Braunton, tapas in Barnstaple, curry on Barricane beach, nachos in Croyde, we have it all.

4 Stay on Park

When you stay with us, you get to use the facilities on all four of our Devon Holiday Parks. We have everything from Segways to Amusements, Adventure Golf to Zorbing. We have WaterWalkerz, Bungee Trampolines and so much more. If it’s a wet and windy day you won’t be bored, we’ve written a blog about what’s on our Parks – there’s too much to fit here!

Loads of amusements

5 The Big Sheep

Meet and feed the animals at this quirky theme park. Loads of different rides and attractions for the whole family and perfect for a rainy day. Enjoy the Rampage Roller-coaster or ride the swans across the lake. Adults can even enjoy the on-site brewery and gin distillery.

6 The local area

Picture postcard towns and quaint fishing villages. Acres of woodlands and the rugged beauty of Exmoor. North Devon sits sandwiched between the powerful Atlantic Ocean and spectacular moorland. We love North Devon and it looks amazing even on those wet and windy days. We have loads of information on what’s on in Woolacombe in another one of our blogs.

7 Blockbuster Cinemas

We have two cinemas, one at Twitchen House and one at Woolacombe Bay. Super-comfy seating, drinks & hot snacks and we’ll always be showing the latest blockbuster films. We don’t mind if you’re smuggling in your own snacks either, especially when the kids are moaning about the wet and windy forecast.
